Causes of Voice Failure

Hoarseness can be caused by a wide variety of diseases. At one end are simple viral infections, upper respiratory tract infections and infectious conditions that can resolve spontaneously.

At the other end of the spectrum are the worst cases, namely cancer of the larynx and cancer of the vocal cords. These include various benign and malignant conditions and different diseases in transition. Given your question, the worst case could be a malignant tumour that alters our voice, whether in the vocal cords, larynx or in the tissues above, known as the vocal tract. Of course, we cannot say that there is absolutely no risk, but it is significantly associated with smoking and the combined use of alcohol and tobacco . Therefore, individuals who smoke, especially from a young age, need to be much more careful about hoarseness.
