Fonomicrosurgery

Hans von Leden, one of the founders of modern laryngology, first used the term ‘phonosurgery’ in 1963 to describe procedures that alter voice quality and pitch. Following advances in technology and a better understanding of the detailed anatomy of the vocal cords, the term ‘phonomosynorrhoea’ has become popularised. It is performed using high-powered microscopes and very sensitive micro-instruments. Lesions of the vocal cords are removed with the highest possible degree of preservation of normal anatomy.
