Phonomicrosurgery

Hans von Leden, one of the founders of modern laryngology, first used the term “phonosurgery” in 1963 to describe procedures that alter voice quality and pitch. After advancements in technology and the detailed understanding of vocal fold anatomy, the term “phonomicrosurgery” became popularized. It is performed using very delicate micro instruments under a high-powered microscope. Vocal fold lesions are removed, and normal anatomy is preserved as much as possible.
